About Coach Mike Hamm
Coach Hamm has the ability to see and communicate adjustments to stroke imperfections to help swimmers improve their mechanics and break through to reach their goals.
He is the 2024 USMS Coach of the Year and a Kerry O’Brien Award winner.
As a swimmer, Coach Hamm was an Olympic trials qualifier, a USA all-American, and a USMS all-American. He set several NCAA Div. II national records during his college career.

Coach Hamm’s Qualifications
Mike Hamm is a USMS Adult Learn-to-Swim (ALTS) certified instructor Trainer and Level 4 certified US Masters coach. He is a lead instructor for USMS and teaches Coaching Levels 1, 2 and 3, as well as the Clinic Course for coaches.
Coach Hamm is the 2024 USMS Coach of the Year and a Kerry O’Brien Award winner. He has been a featured clinician at two USMS High-Performance camps in Greensborough, North Carolina, and has taught numerous clinics both independently and for USMS across the country.
Coach Hamm has been in the aquatic education business for 55 years, including 30 years at the Masters level. He was the grassroots catalyst behind the creation and development of two powerhouse teams: Los Angeles Peninsula Swimmers (LAPS) in Torrance, California, and Kroc Masters (KM) in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho.
On the ARC level, Coach Hamm is certified as a WSIT and a LGIT. He owns and operates the Hamm Swim School in Coeur d’Alene, which specializes in individual instruction for swimmers of all levels.
The Hamm Swim School has assisted more than 40,000 swimmers succeed. Coach Hamm has the ability to see and communicate adjustments to stroke imperfections to help swimmers improve their mechanics and break through to reach their goals.
